Replacing the LIFt Motor on the 8282 Shampoo Chair

This guide provides detailed instructions for replacing the lift motor  in the 8282 Shampoo Chair with the optional heat massage unit and lift system. This tutorial assumes the back panel has already been removed.

Components of the LIFT Motor System

  1. Transformer: Plugs into the wall and provides power.

  2. Lift Motor: Responsible for the up-and-down motion.

  3. Wand: Used to control the lift motor; avoid using it with wet hands to prevent damage.

Preparation

  1. Unplug the Chair: Ensure the chair is disconnected from the power supply.

  2. Check the Transformer:

    • Older models have a transformer with a green LED to indicate power.

    • Verify that the chair is connected to a functioning GFI outlet and check if the GFI has tripped.

Steps to Replace the LIFT Motor

1. Access the LIFT Motor

  1. Inspect the Chair: Ensure it is stable and secure.

  2. Locate the Pins:

    • The Lift motor is secured by two pins (top and bottom).

    • A cosmetic flap covers these areas. It is attached with Velcro and can be removed for better access.

2. Remove the Pins

  1. Lower the Chair for Accessibility:

    • Use the wand to adjust the chair height until the pins become loose.

    • Place a block of wood under the chair for added stability.

  2. Detach the Pins:

    • Remove the bobby pin securing the straight pin.

    • Pull out the pin when it becomes loose.

    • Repeat for the upper and lower pins to release the lift motor.

3. Remove the Lift Motor

  1. Once both pins are removed, the motor assembly will detach.

  2. Carefully remove the lift motor from the chair.

4. Install the New lift Motor

  1. Attach the Lower Pin First:

    • Align the lift motor in its position and insert the lower pin.

    • Secure it with the bobby pin.

  2. Align the Upper Pin:

    • Use the wand to adjust the chair height until the upper pin hole aligns.

    • Insert the upper pin and secure it with the bobby pin.

  3. Reconnect the Wand:

    • Plug the wand into the lift motor system. The plug is designed to fit only one way.

Additional Tips

  1. Lubricate Glide Systems:

    • Apply a small amount of Vaseline with a paintbrush to the glide systems to ensure smooth motion.

    • This maintenance may be needed every 4-5 years.

  2. Avoid Overdriving the Chair:

    • Ensure the blocks are removed before lowering the chair.

    • Do not force the chair beyond its lowest position to prevent damage to the cross members.

Final Checks

  • Confirm all pins are secure.

  • Test the lift motor and wand to ensure proper functionality.

  • Verify that the chair is stable and all cosmetic covers are reattached.

By following these steps, you can successfully replace the motor in the 8282 Shampoo Chair while avoiding common issues.
