How to Set the Collins 310 San Francisco 310 Trolley Lock Combination

This tutorial will guide you through the process of adjusting and resetting the combination lock on the San Francisco 310 trolley. It includes both how to change the default code and how to reposition the barrel if you're unable to reach the reset button due to misalignment.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Default Code Setup

  • Open the Trolley Door:
Start by unlocking and opening the door of your San Francisco 310 trolley. The default code is set to "0000."

2. Change the Combination Code

  • Locate the Reset Button:
On the side of the lock, rotate it until you see a small hole. Inside this hole, there’s a button.

  • Press the Reset Button:
Press and hold the button inside the hole while changing the combination code.
For example, change the code to "1000" by adjusting the dials accordingly.

  • Test the New Code:
After setting the new combination, rotate the dials to the new code and check that the lock is working correctly by turning it back to the new combination.

3. Revert to the Default Code (if needed)

  • Reset Back to "0000":
To return to the default code, simply repeat the process of pressing the reset button, and adjust the dials back to "0000."

4. Reaching the Reset Button (If Lock is Misaligned)

  • Identify Misalignment:
If you cannot access the reset button, it’s likely because the barrel is oriented incorrectly. This can happen if the lock is installed improperly.

  • Remove the Lock Barrel:
Use a screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the lock barrel in place. Carefully pull the barrel out. Be mindful of the small parts, as they can be easy to drop.

5. Reposition the Lock Barrel

  • Reposition the Barrel:
Once the barrel is out, inspect the hole where the reset button is located. Rotate the barrel so that the hole lines up with the reset button.

  • Align the Lock to the Correct Position:
Orient the cam piece on the barrel so that the locked and unlocked positions align properly. Ensure the lock is positioned to cover the hole when locked, making the reset button inaccessible during the locked state.

6. Reassemble the Lock

  • Reassemble the Lock:
Once the barrel is correctly repositioned, carefully reassemble all components. Ensure the lock can now rotate 90 degrees, and the reset button is accessible only in the unlocked position.

  • Test the Lock:
With the barrel properly repositioned, test the combination lock by resetting the code to your preferred number. Make sure the lock is functioning as intended.

By following these steps, you will be able to change the combination lock code on your San Francisco 310 trolley and fix any misalignment issues with the lock barrel. This ensures that your trolley lock works efficiently and securely.
