How the Optional Gas Assist Reclines
The gas-assisted recline system is a convenient feature designed to provide smoother reclining and upright motion for Collins chairs. Below is a step-by-step guide to understand how it works and its key considerations:
Step 1: Understand the Mechanism
- The gas-assisted recline system uses a lever control located at the back of the chair.
- The lever is cable-actuated and controlled with a thumb pull for easy operation.
Step 2: Operating the Recline
- Use the thumb pull on the lever to release the reclining mechanism.
- Apply approximately 40 pounds of force to push the chair into a reclining position.
- The system assists by providing about 20 pounds of force to return the chair to its upright position.
Note: While the system offers assistance, it is not designed to lift individuals with significant mobility issues.
Step 3: Ensure Compatibility with the Hydraulic Pump
- The gas-assisted recline system must be used with a hydraulic pump for proper functionality.
- The addition of the gas cylinder requires an inch and a half adjustment to the bottom of the chair.
- Using a standard pump would result in the chair being too tall. A hydraulic pump, adjusted inch and a half lower, ensures the chair remains at its regular height.
Important Considerations
- The gas-assisted recline system cannot be retrofitted to chairs with standard pumps due to the height adjustment required.
- If you have questions about compatibility or installation, please contact Collins directly for assistance.
